With the mounting pressures that one faces each day, there is a need to blow off steam. This may be why the game of Airsoft has gained in popularity so quickly over the last few years. Using Airsoft guns to shoot at things after a long and tedious day not only relieves tension, it also lets one play a game that allows aggression.

An Airsoft game is somewhat like a paintball game in that there are skirmishes, and the goal is to shoot somebody. However, the type of gun that is selected, the strategy that is used during the game, and the levels of play are very different.

People who play Airsoft take the game very seriously. This game is played throughout the world and there are several contests and championships each year. The Airsoft guns are exact replicas of real weapons and have the same weight and feel of the weapon that they are replicating.

One can easily be overwhelmed by the number of airsoft guns that are available. There are literally two Airsoft guns made for every weapon made. For instance, the AR-15 series weapon. There is an Airsoft Electric Gun in the AR-15 series, and an Airsoft Gas Gun in the AR-15 series. Both guns look and feel the same. They are both exact replicas of the AR-15 series weapon. However, in a cold climate, the AEG will out perform the AGG.

The differences in the guns and the options and add-ons that are available become very apparent in open day skirmishes. These skirmishes usually take place in standard Airsoft fields and are composed of groups of individuals who may or may not know each other. Usually in these games there are some players with a great deal of experience and some players who are just trying out the game for the first time.

The Airsoft Electric Guns (AEGs) can shoot between 100 and 3000 bbs per minute. They have a very good range even in their basic form. However, as individuals begin to play the game and want further range and velocity from their airsoft guns they often add hop-up units. These are a small part that fits into the stock of the gun. They make the bb spin backwards and come out of the barrel faster giving it more distance and velocity.

The AR-15 series Airsoft guns have a range of about 250 feet. To increase that range many players will add hop-up units. These units make the bb spin when it is leaving the barrel and speeds up the velocity and range of the bb. In addition, one can add an Electric blow back unit which will make the bbs exiting sound like gun shots and make smoke appear as though it were a real gun.

One will see many Airsoft guns at a game and each player will have a favorite gun. Some individuals prefer the AGGs which are Airsoft Gas Guns. These guns run using propane or a CO2 gas tank. Manufacturers have now created an adapter so that a person can get gas for their gun from a camp propane tank using the adapter.

When first starting in the game of Airsoft one may want to rent their guns at first until they find the gun that fits their needs and skill level. This will allow an individual to develop a skill and strategy that will make the game exciting and fun.
