Nearly everyone has heard about Botox. This very popular cosmetic treatment used to be so expensive that only the very affluent could afford it. However, as with most cosmetic procedures, the cost has come down dramatically over the past few years. This make it one of the most affordable treatments for wrinkles.

Botox is the brand name for a protein that is found in botulism toxin. It reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles. Botox is most commonly injected between the eye brow to get rid of the ever easily present brow furrow marks. However, it can also be used to get rid of marionette lines, bunny lines, and the dreaded crow's feet.

The procedure is fairly simple. A small amount of Botox is injected into the wrinkled area. The Botox actually paralyses the muscle, which makes it relax. This reduces the appearance of the wrinkle and smoothes the skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

The side effects of the treatment are redness and swelling at the injection site. This redness and swelling is usually gone within a day or two. There is no downtime with this procedure and you can often find many women who get their Botox treatments while on a lunch break. There is a slight risk of an allergic reaction. Your med spa personnel should be able to advise you if you have a specific risk for such a reaction.

Botox will usually last between three and six months. New injections are needed to repeat the results. This procedure is so popular nowadays, that some hold Botox parties so all in attendance can get their dose! While the procedure is not entirely painless, but the discomfort is only limited to the very tiny needle prick.

Believe it or not, men are also becoming big fans of Botox. Around ten to fifteen percent of all cosmetic procedures today are performed on men. Although you may have trouble finding a man that will actually tell you he had a procedure, these numbers are testament to how popular this treatment is.

Since the cost of Botox has come down dramatically, this treatment is now become quite popular throughout the income levels. Make sure it is administered by a qualified technician to avoid any problems. Stick to the reputable med spas to get the best results.
